Most software projects that struggle don't fail because of bad code. They fail because the team built the wrong thing, or built the right thing in the wrong order.
Start with the problem, not the feature list
Before estimating anything, agree on the problem worth solving and who it is for. A one-page brief that names the user, the job they are trying to do and what success looks like will save weeks later.
Make the risky decisions early
- Technical risk: prototype the integration or algorithm you are least sure about.
- Product risk: put a clickable prototype in front of real users.
- Delivery risk: agree on what "done" means for the first release.
Keep the roadmap honest
A roadmap is a set of bets, not a promise. Review it every few weeks and be willing to cut scope to protect the outcome.
